Nilwon Locklear

Nilwon N. Locklear passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the age of 70.

Nilwon was born on November 7, 1952 in Bay Springs, MS to Theron and Maudie Rae Simmons. She was a lifelong member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Pascagoula, MS. She was employed at Hancock Bank for over 30 years and Merchants and Marine Bank for 12. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, shopping, card games and traveling.  Closely behind the love for her children and grandchildren was a good cup of coffee. Her ideal day would be in the mountains with her family and a cup of coffee in her hand.  It is said a good friend is hard to find, Nilwon was that rare gem. She loved and cared for her friends like family. She will be greatly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Currie Locklear; a brother, Melvin Simmons; a son-in-law, Wayne Thorne and a brother-in-law, Roger Smith.

She is survived by three children; Ashely Thorne, Derrick Locklear (Christy), and Jared Locklear (Audrey) all of Vancleave, MS; siblings, James Simmons (Rosie)  and Judy Smith all of Pascagoula, MS; grandchildren, Catherine Locklear, Madelyn Brown, Taylor Brown, Collin Locklear, Addison Locklear, Jordan Locklear, Blayke Locklear, Hayden Thorne, Hope Gilliand and Chloe Gilliand and one great- grandchild, Hayes Thorne; Special group of friends, “Sew Magnolias” and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Monday October 16, 2023 from 10-11 am at Woodlawn Baptist Church with service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery. Condolences can be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
