Olly Roy McVeay, Sr. passed away on February 23, 2021 at the age of 81 at his home.
Olly, one of eleven children born to Walter and Katie McVeay, arrived on March 2, 1939 in Biloxi, MS. He was a hardworking, self-employed business owner most of his life in various industries including, Industrial and Marine construction, staffing and restauranteur. He was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Gautier and past member of the Lions Club and Elks Club. Olly enjoyed softball and golf and had a love for family and Alabama football. He was big hearted, compassionate, generous and fearlessly loyal. If you were his friend or family, you were a recipient of these traits at least once. As a father, he was a hero, defender and great ally. This giant of a man will be greatly missed.
Olly was preceded in death by his parents, children, Olly Roy “Sonny Boy” McVeay, Jr., Kathy Marlene McMillan and Eric Dale McVeay; sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Rouse, Doris Clifford and brothers, Walter “Bob”, Darryl, Burnett “Cheeka”, Dale, Alton, Jim and Larry.
He is survived by his wife, Sheron McVeay of Moss Point, MS; children, Melanie Renee McVeay, Wanda Faye McVeay, Belinda Joy Clayton, Barry Scott McVeay, Olly Wayne (Angela) McVeay, Alton Chance McVeay, Jeremiah Brett McVeay; stepchildren, Lori Suzanne O’Brien and Robyn Elizabeth Brown (Bryan), one sister, Kay Wheat and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Service in his honor will be Saturday, February 27 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula at noon with visitation from 10:30-12noon. Special thanks to Deaconess Hospice, especially Manda Hill Gardashe for her tremendous kindness and care she gave to Olly and the entire McVeay Family.
