Robert Edward Lynn Jr.

Robert Edward “Bobby” Lynn, Jr., age 90, entered heaven Thursday, July 2.

Bobby was born April 19, 1936, in Pascagoula, MS. After graduating from Pascagoula High School (PHS) he served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He then graduated from Mississippi State University (MSU) with a degree in industrial engineering in 1963. While at MSU, he met and married the love of his life Jeanne Shaw, and they were married for 48 wonderful years.

Bobby left the Gemini and Mercury Space Program at McDonald Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, MO, to return to Pascagoula, MS, to join his father in operating Lynn’s Machine Works. In addition, Bobby was a machine shop teacher in the Vocational-Technical program at PHS and worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding. Bobby and his father succeeded together for many years before his father retired. Bobby’s wife and two sons also worked in the family business. Bobby was one of the most well-known and respected machinists on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

A man of strong faith and character, he was an active member of First Baptist Church, Pascagoula, where he was installed as a lifetime deacon, served on numerous committees, taught Sunday School from youth to adults, sang in the choir, hauled sewing machines for the Hemmed in Prayer program, and designed and built the Singing Christmas Tree structure, a beloved years-long tradition.

He is survived by his children, Sherrie Lynn of Memphis, TN; David Lynn of Hurley, MS; and Daniel (Sacha) Lynn of Pascagoula, MS; granddaughters Kyrstin Lynn and Kaylin Lynn of Hurley, MS; Mia (Alexis) Platt of Milton, FL; great grandson Drayke Lippee, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; his parents, Edith and Robert E. Lynn, Sr.; and his sister Betty Culpepper.

Bobby’s celebration of life will be held Monday, July 13, at First Baptist Church, Pascagoula, MS. Visitation will be from 11–2 pm, followed by the service at 2 pm.
