Ruby E. Rogers

Ruby Elizabeth (Rishel) Rogers passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the age of 89.

Ruby was born to Joseph and Emma Rishel in Long Beach, MS on October 3, 1932, the baby of 10 children to Jospeh Wilbur Rishel and Emma (Allen) Rishel. On February 20, 1950 she married Norman Elexie “Lexie” Rogers. They were married 49 years until his death in September of 1999.

Ruby was a woman of great faith from an early age. Her first memory of church is being put on a pallet and slid under the bench in front of her mother, for night services. At age 5 she remembers being very excited for church on Easter morning because her mother had made her a deep blue taffeta dress with a fitted bodice, puffy sleeves and a full gathered skirt with a wide sash that tied into a beautiful bow. (This was the beginning of her learning to sew, a talent which she continued by making her own clothes, suits for the family and a few wedding dresses.)

Ruby participated in the Miss Long Beach pageant when she was 16 representing an auto mechanic business. She dropped out of high school to get married, but after all her sons were all in school, she went back for her GED at the community college.

Ruby was saved in the Antioch Baptist Church in Long Beach when she was 15 years old. She was a member of the Pascagoula Church of God for 51 years, where she was a Sunday school teacher and once the Mother of the Year recipient. Ruby has been a member and officer of Women’s Aglow. One of her proudest moments was at the age 70 , she received an associate degree from Brownsville Revival School of Ministry in Pensacola Florida.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Lexie and sons Charles Elexie Rogers and Morgan Chance Rogers.

Ruby is survived by her sons Norman Storm Rogers with his wife Faith, William Lewis “Bill” Rogers with his wife Pat, Franklin “Frank” McClure Rogers with his wife Marie. Grandchildren Leigh Ayn Smith, Angela Breslin, Tiffany Rogers, Meghan Sledge, Norman Seth Rogers, and Alisa Rogers. There are nine great grandchildren and many more relatives, church family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral service will be Thursday at 10 am in the chapel. Interment will conclude at Coalville UMC Cemetery in Woolmarket. Condolences may be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
