Sheila Cuevas Tillman Obituary

Sheila Cuevas Tillman, 84, of Pascagoula, MS went to be with our precious Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 17, 2024. She passed at her home surrounded by her loving family. Sheila was born on January 30, 1940, in Greenwood, MS, but has been a resident of Pascagoula for the past 82 years. She graduated 11th in her class from Pascagoula High School in 1958. She obtained her a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Mississippi and an MBA from William Carey College. She met and married Charles “Poncho” Tillman in 1984. Sheila retired as a Program Specialist from Ingalls Shipbuilding in 2002 after 42 years of service.

She was an active member of Ingalls Avenue Baptist Church for over 50 years. Her service spanned serving on numerous committees, teaching children’s and adult Sunday school classes and singing in the adult choir. She enjoyed the fun and fellowship her church family provided, along with all the friendships cultivated there throughout the years.

Sheila enjoyed an active retirement. There was nothing she loved more than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed trips with her IABC senior adult group, as well as being an active member in the Pascagoula Garden Club and Magnolia Car Club with her husband Poncho. She served her community by volunteering as a poll worker during elections.

She is preceded in death by her parents Uris and Edith Cuevas; her son, John T. Everett Jr.; her. husband Charles “Poncho” Tillman; and son-in-law Ronnie McArthur.

Survivors include her daughters: Melanie McArthur of Escatawpa, Leigh Ann (Jimmy) Scott of Ocean Springs, stepchildren Paul (Jana) Tillman of Hurley, Mitzy Barr of Pascagoula, and Chad (Sylvia) Tillman of Pascagoula; grandchildren Keleigh (Blakney) Dykes of Madison, April Dykes of Pascagoula, Rebecca Haynes of Ocean Springs, James Everett of Lucedale, Raegan McArthur of Escatawpa; along with 8 great grandchildren and special sister-in-law, Mary Ann Everett. Let us not forget her beloved Grand dogs, Auggie, Coco and Cookie.

Special thanks to Deaconess Home Care, her nurse Jim Brown and her caretaker Barbara Jefferson.
