Mrs. Shirley Jean Burrell a most beautiful, kind, loving and angelic spirit departed this earth for her heavenly home on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 8:45 AM. Born August 24, 1939 in Electric Mills, MS to the late John A. and Henri Elizabeth Hatcher Walker, she had been a resident of Gautier, MS since 1980. She attended Mississippi State University, where she earned both her bachelor and master’s degrees in education. Also, while at MSU, she was a cheerleader and met and married the love of her life her star football player Ode Burrell, Jr. Ms. Shirley taught public school for over 25 years before retiring. She loved to travel, all Mississippi State sports and supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She tried to never miss a family event. In her own words, she stated “My family is my life!” She was fiery and tough, a fighter until the very end. She was deeply loved by her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Burrell was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Ode and her brother Mr. Ray Walker.
Among those left to cherish her memory are her son Jack Burrell and his wife Patti of Fairhope, AL; her daughter Beth Seymour and her husband Steve of Kiln, MS; her sister-in-law Barbara Walker of Pascagoula, MS; her grandchildren Summer Cuevas and husband Lance, Hunter Seymour, Lauren Burrell, Jack Burrell, Jr. and great-grandchildren Brooklyn Cuevas, Harper Cuevas, and Oakleigh Cuevas.
Funeral services will be private due to the ongoing pandemic. Interment will be at Scenic Memorial Gardens.
