Stephen Everett Greer Sr., 65, of Hurley, died Thursday, October 17, 2019, after a knock-down drag-out with cancer.
Born July 31, 1954, Steve was the youngest son of Everett and Sarah Greer. He played baseball throughout his youth. Steve attended Pascagoula High School where he played saxophone in the band and Chamberlain-Hunt Academy, the military school where he learned the art of towel folding — both skills he would later pass down to his daughters.
Before surgery stole his voice, his deep baritone may have convinced you to buy materials from Greer and Sons Welding and Industrial Supply or commercial real estate from Century 21. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pascagoula, where he married his wife of 28 years, Gail.
He loved hunting and fishing with his son, cheering on the Braves and Saints, and telling dad jokes long before they were cool. He adored every dog he met, and the feeling was always mutual. His gigantic summertime shrimp boils were rivaled only by his ambitious July 4th firework displays.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law John Hunter of Gautier. He is survived by his wife Gail Greer; children Maegan Greer of Pascagoula, Sara Greer and husband Geoffrey Bowman of Corpus Christi, Texas, Amanda Boutwell of Hurley, and Stephen Greer Jr. of Hurley; sister Judy Hunter of St. Martin; brother Richard and wife Cheryl Greer of Pascagoula; grandchildren Kaeli, Lorraina, Kendall, and Kaylynn; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss him very much.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 1-3pm at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula with the Funeral Service to follow in the chapel.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Light and caregivers Mollie, Amanda and LaToya for their support during his final months. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
