Sylvia Annette Steiner Chandler passed away at her home on Thursday. September 12, 2024, at the age of 83.
Syvia was born on September 24, 1940 in Jackson County, MS, one of six children born to Woodrow and Dora Steiner. She was a longtime member of Unity Baptist Church. She and her husband James Chandler moved from Pascagoula to Escatawpa in 1978 where she remained until her death. She enjoyed fishing and quilting. The love for the water was in her blood, her grandfather was the keeper of the light in the early 1900’s at the Lighthouse on Round Island.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Chandler in 2007; two sons, Glenn Chandler and Kenny Owens; two brothers, Buddy and David Steiner.
She is survived by her son Charles Chandler and his wife Connie; siblings, Elbert Steiner, Janet Evans (Bernie) and Debbie Pokrinchak (Ricky); grandchildren, Christy Gilliand, Nikki Hayes, and Wayne Dixon; great grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Gilliand, Dylan, Madyson, and Kaylynn Hayes, Jordyn Williams, Waylon, Caleb, J.D., Saige and Leon Dixon, and one on the way; one great - great grandchild, Sophia Gilliand.
Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2024 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula from 11:00 am -12:00 noon with funeral service beginning at 12 noon in the chapel. Interment will conclude at Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery. Condolences can be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com
