Vince Rene Gordon of Madisonville, LA passed away close to midnight on August 1st with one of his best lifelong friends, Tommy Vervaeke at his side. Vince was born and raised in Pascagoula, MS as the fifth of six boys born to Noble and Dot Gordon. If you ever met Vince, you liked him instantly. If he was ever down, you didn’t know it. He always had a smile on his face, and you never left Vince without a smile on yours. He could have a good time in any situation. His lifelong passion was music. He taught himself how to play the drums and guitar at 13 years of age, but it was as a drummer that he was best known. He had a massive album collection and would learn to play songs by just listening along, whether it was KISS, Aerosmith, the Ramones, or REM. Of course, Vince also loved going to live concerts as well starting from his teenage years and continuing well into adulthood. Vince enjoyed the smaller music venues the most where he would take every opportunity to grab a set list or to meet one of the band members.
Vince attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he became a Sigma Chi as a freshman there. He also served as the Mic Man for the Golden Eagles Cheerleaders where his enthusiasm never failed to excite the crowd. He majored in Hotel and Restaurant Administration and had a career in the restaurant industry. It was a career that fit him well as he always made sure you were well taken care of. While working in Birmingham. AL, Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr would ask for Vince by name when attending his restaurant.
Vince is preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Dot Gordon, his oldest brother, Brad Gordon, and his great nephew, Noah Crowe (Brad’s grandson). He is survived by 4 brothers, John (Lou Ann) of Birmingham, AL, Rod (Lisa) Gordon or Pascagoula, MS, Tim (Debra) Gordon of Brandon, MS, and Wyatt Gordon on Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his beautiful daughter, Riley Rene, 12 nieces and nephews, and 16 great nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of his life in the Parish Hall at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula, MS on August 12, 2023. Visitation will be from 11 am – 12 pm. At 12 pm, we will have words from Family and Friends, followed by a service in the church sanctuary at 12:30 pm.
