Walter Lee Pol, age 96, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Singing River Hospital. He was born March 19, 1927 in Pascagoula. Walter Lee attended Pascagoula High School and enlisted in the US Coast Guard serving during WWII. He began his law enforcement career with the Mississippi State Highway Patrol. He was the Chief of Police for Pascagoula Police Department and Chief Deputy for Jackson County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Fred Diamond. He became Director of Security at Ingall’s Shipbuilding during the years of constructing nuclear submarines. Mr. Pol was a Circuit Court Administrator for the 19th Judicial District and appointed Interim Jackson County Justice Court Judge. He was the Director of the Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control Division, Manager for the Jackson County Medical Foundation, a member of the Singing River Hospital Board of Directors for nine years and Criminal Investigator for the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office until retiring at the age of 80.
Walter Lee married the love of his life on July 9, 1959, in Pascagoula and together raised two sons and a daughter. He was a member of Arlington Baptist Church in Pascagoula and enjoyed attending Lighthouse Baptist Church with his daughter. He lived his life like he served his community and country with patriotism, devotion, love and dignity.
He is preceded in death by his father, Miguel Lee Pol; mother Meleta Ladnier Kihyet; half brothers and sister, Anton Kihyet II; Miguel Pol, Jr.; Louis Pol; Thomas Pol and Janet Rasmussen.
Walter Lee is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dolores Ann Pol; two sons, Michael Lee Pol (Jill), Biloxi, MS; David Wayne Pol (Becky), Chesterfield, VA; and daughter, Deanna Lynn Pol Sanders (Randy), Pascagoula, MS; seven grandchildren, Grant Pol (Crystal), Andrew Pol (Cason), Anna Leigh Blundell (Carl), Lana Pol, Brandon Sanders (McCall), Haley Sanders and Jonathan Sanders (Blayre Smith, fiancé); three great grandchildren, Walter Pol, Griffin Sanders and Benjamin Blundell, other family members, law enforcement brothers and sisters, two church families
and great friends.
At Walter Lee Pol’s request and concern for his wife and family, a brief visitation with the family will be Monday Jan. 15, 2024, 12:00-1:00pm, at O’Bryant-O’keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00pm with Rev Jerry Reed officiating. Entombment will follow at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula. Six active pallbearers will be representatives of Pascagoula Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol. Honorary Pallbearers will be any current and former law enforcement officers.
