Wayne Chavis

Wayne Chavis of Gulfport, MS passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Wayne was born on May 21,1946 in Lubbock, Texas to George and Cleo Chavis. The family moved from Texas to South Carolina to Memphis, TN where they lived until 1959, when they moved to the MS Gulf Coast. He was a 1964 Graduate of Ocean Springs High School, following graduation he joined the US Navy. After completing 4 years of active duty, Wayne returned to Ocean Springs attending MS Gulf Coast Community College in Gautier, MS. It was there he met his wife to be Sandra. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Gulfport.    Wayne was loved dearly and will be missed greatly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Gayle Chavis; his daughter, Julie Diane Scwab- Chavis, infant son, David Wayne Chavis; siblings, Robert L. Chavis, Karen L Chavis, E. Lavonne Golden and brother-in-law, Alan Santa Cruz.

He is survived by a sister, Joan Santa Cruz ; sister-in-law,  Debra Chavis and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula from 11:30PM-12:30 PM. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 12:30 PM with Rev. Steve Crane officiating. Interment will conclude at Jackson County Memorial Park with military honors.
