William R. Jones (Bill) age 88 passed away peacefully Wednesday morning February 26, 2020.
He was born in Prichard, AL on 10/21/31 to George and Elizabeth Jones.
He married the love of his life Joyce A. Jones at the age of 18. Their marriage spanned 70 years and she preceded him in death by exactly 30 days.
Bill was raised as a Christian, but later in life converted to Judaism. While he embraced the Torah and the Jewish traditions he was a staunch believer of the whole Bible including the life, death and resurrection of the Jewish Jesus/Yahshua. He taught his 5 children these precepts opening the Word of God in all its fullness. He loved to travel the world, and always said Israel was the place he loved best. Bill proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp during the Korean War. He was a highly intelligent, brilliant, strong man who loved books and hard work. His first employment was iron-working, and was fearless to climb the tallest skyscrapers in many city centers. Later in life, he turned to real estate investing and enjoyed a great success there as well.
He had 5 brothers, Reuben, Jake, George, Bruce and Frances, four preceded in him in death with the exception of his brother Bruce aged 90 who survives him.
He is also survived by his 5 children; Debra Starling, Donna Pope, Jeffery Jones, Julia Turner and Timothy Jones and a vast number of grandchildren-Tiffany Ritchason, Hillary White, Justin Pope, Joseph Pope, Oliver Pope, Alex Pope, Cara Kellogg, Jacob Jones, Hannah Jones, Cassie Lane, Ben Turner, Betsy Hollingsworth, Jolie Gilchrist, Olivia Ramsay, Scarlett Jones and Timothy Jones II, 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter Emerson, as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
He was a Moses to his family leading the way both in life and death. He has now crossed over Jordan and is rejoicing in the presence of the Lord! So we celebrate his home going with Shalom, Peace knowing we will see him soon in that better place!
Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home at 3 pm with visitation one hour prior. Interment will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
