William “Bill” Clyde Shumate, Jr. 

William “Bill” Clyde Shumate, Jr., age 73, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025 at Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL after years of battling leukemia. Celebration of Life will be held at the Grand Magnolia (3604 Magnolia Street, Pascagoula, MS) on Saturday, December 20, 2025 from 12pm-2pm; followed by Memorial Service.

A proud graduate of Pascagoula High School, Bill continued his education at University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He went on to build a meaningful career at Singing River Hospital, where he served as a counselor and later as the interim director of the Chemical Dependency Unit. His dedication and compassion touched many lives during those years. In 1992, Bill opened Sunkissed Tanning Salons along with his lifelong friends Donna McKenzie McInnis, David and Lynn McKenzie. Their first salon was the Ocean Springs location, and then expanded to Pascagoula and Biloxi. He poured his entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and warmth into his work and the businesses became part of the community for many years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and William Shumate, Sr; his brother, D.P. Shumate and beloved Aunt Hazel and Uncle Ernest.

 He is survived by his wife, Holly Hall Shumate; Marguerite (Sissy) Shumate; nephews Mike Shumate and David (Tina) Shumate; great nephews David H. Shumate and great-great nephew Rhett David Shumate. Bill also leaves behind his cherished little dog, Sloopy, who brought him endless joy.

Bill had a deep love of animals, especially dogs. In honor of his memory, the family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Jackson County Animal Shelter.
